Volunteer

We are always looking for volunteers to help with our conservation efforts! Owning and protecting caves and karst require lots of hands to help with the work of maintaining roads, buildings, gates, and other features of our preserves.

Please contact the Chair of each committee if you can volunteer. Contact information can be found in the NSS Members Manual

Building and Grounds Committee

Chair: Michael R. Kistler (Pennsylvania)

Mike maintains a very detailed Google Sheet of work that needs to be performed, and he offers this list as priority items that need attention:

  1. Remove dead ash trees on the Butler Cave Preserve, especially the tree above the Homestead patio.
  2. Insulate the top of the chimney pipe on the chimney of the Butler Homestead. We first need someone to measure the diameter of the pipe.
  3. Solder leak on the left porch cooking stove.
  4. Re-corning of the masonry chimney with proper materials. There are cracks and the corners are deteriorating.
  5. Repair gutters on the Old Postmasters House to prevent damage to the building.
